We obviously should have done that 60 years ago when climate change was becoming recognized. We didn’t because it would impact profits and slightly modify our way of life. Now that impact is much greater so people dont want to change. The problem is we will eventually have to address it and pushing it off to the next generation is compounding the problem.

Sounds like so many other problems the boomer generation has “dealt with”. The real barriers now are large corporations and legislation. Unfortunately the US is largely run by ancient slugs in the pocket of big money.

I hate politics. No matter how much quality research is done, the opposition can keep paying unscrupulous actors to “publish” things that support them. Forget about the public being able to tell the difference. My take is that this will never go away unless we develop entirely different governments. Maybe something based on merit, like only PhDs with 20 years of experience in a field can make these decisions. Per relevant topic of course.
