It’s Friday, the day before the weekend and there will be some Sun!
It kinda feels like the old DT of reddit sans reddit. Kinda feels like home away from home and it’s you guys who are helping. I’m glad I decided to join this place after all. Feeling happy and slightly teary? You all are good eggs in my book
The firing of the employee went down earlier today.
They decided to turn it into a resignation to save face.
Had to step in to prevent it turning into an argument with their manager, but handled it well.
The employee thanked me for my professionalism when I walked them to their car, and they hugged me goodbye.
So glad I held a debriefing with their team afterward. It honestly helps me as much as it helps them.
Still feeling a bit from it. So my self care starts now with a curried cauliflower pie from Country Cob
All things considered for sure. Would have preferred a million other different ways to wrap up the week, but ending a tough situation with a hug ain’t too bad
Kind of miffed that you didn’t incorporate a song into it, but you got it done.
Speaking of Country Cob, their vanilla slices are amazing! I’ve tried a few of their pies and wasn’t very impressed though, especially for the price.
Can’t speak for their meat ones, but the vegetarian ones are great.
I think it’s more that it’s a treat to have a place offer more than a bland token vegetable pastie
being poor poem
Rent has been paid, and now it’s quite tight
I’ll spoil the puss because he’s my light.
Not enough for my meds so it’ll be hard tonight,
Too many night-terrors, but I should be alright!
Things will get better, this is just a tough spot,
I will get better, I will improve my lot.
So has there been any updates on the Reddit saga? I’m low key loving that I get to live through a part of internet history for once. I hardly used Twitter. I wasn’t on iPhone for the privacy breaches. I think this is the first big scandal I get to witness first hand. Well, except maybe the blaster worm back in ‘03.
I have been struggling to keep up with discussion about it, I just check reddark daily, 5,000/8,000 subs are still dark.
Theverge.com has some updates on the reddit saga. Basically, reddit says get stuffed. So if the r/Melbourne mods are gonna stick to their guns get comfortable gang. We ain’t going anywhere any time soon.
I’ve crept back to Reddit a couple of times over the last few days but honestly… there’s some weird communities that people are clinging on to that are now appearing on r/all that I’m just like “if this is what Reddit is to become, maybe it’s a good thing that I just walk away.”
I’m happy enough in here, provided we retain a good percentage of the old DT gang. We might need to recruit or hope that we gain enough traction to increase our numbers of great people eventually, but for now, this will have to do :)
Sadly, the r/NRL meatheads aren’t interested and don’t care if reddit fucks over their users so they aren’t interested in any further action or moving platforms. That’s probably my most frequented sub so I’m somewhat tied to it if I want to talk NRL in a non-discord setting.
Yeah - I think there’s something to be said for those “left over”. I followed the r/squaredcircle sub which was all wrestling-focussed. People didn’t want it to go dark but it did anyway, and now there’s a r/squaredcircle2 that’s already gaining members. Some narrow-minded individuals that want things to stay the way they are, without realising that things are slowly but surely slipping to a certain rhetoric when it comes to narrative and discourse (i.e.: a lot of right-wing influencers who are mods).
Really? I popped back there this morning and I don’t think that, besides Melbourne, any one of the subreddits that I frequent have gone permanently dark.
I was only ever active in the Melbourne subreddit but frequently lurked in many others, and it’s business as usual in all of them. I never went on r/all though so maybe that’s why I never noticed a dofference
r/cricket and r/afl are open, if melbourne opens back up then I’m all set.
someone made a r/squaredcircle2 but I feel like the worst people of that sub are the ones who didn’t understand the point of the protests in the first place. The whole “it doesn’t affect me so why should I bother?” kind of narrative. I mean, sure, you do you, but I don’t see how Reddit can improve under the dictatorship of u/spez
Anyone can also check r/ModCoord for updates on the great schism. The moderators will eventually be replaced if they don’t capitulate.
I haven’t read the verge article but one would assume getting advertisers to start pulling their money out of Reddit would be the only play.
