In the screenshot I’ve included, you can see that the number of comments for the post is 20+. However, I only see 2 comments when I look at the post.

Is this just a byproduct of federation? I don’t think I’ve blocked any instances yet, but is it possible the comments are from instances blocked my lemmy.world? Also, I use Memmy on iOS; could that be the cause?

Appreciate any insight!

I think it must be a federation thing? I have the same problem and would like a definitive answer.

Another commenter advised that I add “English” along with “Undetermined” in the language settings for Lemmy. That seems to have done the trick!

I’ll try this, thank you!

Check your language settings. If you changed them you are not able to see all posts.

This should be removed. We should encourage people from any country/language being able to communicate with eachother and make inline translations easy to setup vs hiding comments

Why do I feel like you’d be leaving this platform if your feed was 90% german?

Remove an option? Its by definition optional, and inline translation services are pretty bad usually so a lot of users might not want to use them

Its actively causing bad user experiences because it’s confusing and also hard to know that it’s causing the issue

Just checked, I left the setting as “Undetermined” as it warns that changing the language will make certain content unavailable.

Change it to English lol. I forget where it was said, but a month or so ago I remember someone saying there had been an issue where if you leave it as Undetermined, it won’t show you most English content.

I think this was the trick! Changed language setting so that “Undetermined” and “English” and comments in this very post appeared that weren’t there before! Thanks so much!

I just selected all languages so I’d be able to see everything.

Just did this and your comment appeared in my notifications only after doing so! Looks like I’m good now. 😎

Same issue with Sync. I’ve always just though it was users who I’ve blocked/blocked me since the fediverse is so small

On top of language settings, you can also check if bot accounts are being shown or hidden, because it will hide bot comments and any child comments beneath bot comments too

Rule 4- No self promotion or upvote-farming of any kind.

That’s it.

Rule 5- No baiting or sealioning or promoting an agenda.

Questions which, instead of being of an innocuous nature, are specifically intended (based on reports and in the opinion of our crack moderation team) to bait users into ideological wars on charged political topics will be removed and the authors warned - or banned - depending on severity.

Rule 6- Regarding META posts and joke questions.

Provided it is about the community itself, you may post non-question posts using the [META] tag on your post title.

On fridays, you are allowed to post meme and troll questions, on the condition that it’s in text format only, and conforms with our other rules. These posts MUST include the [NSQ Friday] tag in their title.

If you post a serious question on friday and are looking only for legitimate answers, then please include the [Serious] tag on your post. Irrelevant replies will then be removed by moderators.

Rule 7- You can't intentionally annoy, mock, or harass other members.

If you intentionally annoy, mock, harass, or discriminate against any individual member, you will be removed.

Likewise, if you are a member, sympathiser or a resemblant of a movement that is known to largely hate, mock, discriminate against, and/or want to take lives of a group of people, and you were provably vocal about your hate, then you will be banned on sight.

Rule 8- All comments should try to stay relevant to their parent content.

Rule 9- Reposts from other platforms are not allowed.

Let everyone have their own content.

Rule 10- Majority of bots aren't allowed to participate here.
