The glint only shows up with long range scopes.

Getting to snipe without giving away your location is really good and the medium range scopes work just fine.

Is there a fundamental difference in the lens material that causes this? I know very little about scopes. And what magnification constitutes long range vs medium range?

Long range scopes have better zoom (can see far away targets clearly), but have a scope glint which allows other players to spot you easily.

Medium scopes are not that zoomed in (you will mostly see just dots moving very far away), but has the advantage of not having scope glints meaning it will be very difficult for other players to spot you if you position yourself correctly.

What ranges are we talking about? Like, would 3x be considered long range? That’s good for something like 300 yards, right?

I have personally tried medium scopes with 1000+ meter range. It works fine, but the targets are still hard to see.

For distances less than 500 meters, medium scopes should be good enough.

If you mean which specific scopes, the scopes are categorised. Medium range scopes don’t have the glint the long range ones do.

Just look in the game, they are categorized.
