Iβve been having a look for one but canβt find any. Am I missing something obvious?
FlorisBoard is in f-droid, and has swipe. What it doesnβt currently have, and has been in the βto doβ list for - I donβt know, over a year - is autocorrect. This makes swipe far less effective than on other boards. But it does work well; there are just a lot of spelling errors to fix.
If itβs feature complete, a keyboard doesnβt need regular updates. According to the other thread itβs not feature complete, so it could be abandoned. Since itβs FOSS any enthusiastic person could stop it from being abandoned.
Yeah after a while I found I had this issue. Now switched to AnySoftKeyboard and it seems to have what I need.
I switched the other way, but I honestly donβt remember why. Iβll have to try AnySoft again.
It freezes. For minutes at a time. Not often, but minutes are too long, and you cannot kill it. Also, it auto hides in the middle of typing when you type βtoo fastβ, there are words you simply cannot swipe (βneverβ being one, it always gives βnerveβ), some that constantly are guessed wrong (common words replaced by a rather obscure alternative), and sometimes, when you type βtoo fastβ, the cursor moves one or to positions backwards as you type.
Honestly I appreciate the effort it must have been to code, but Iβm sad it has all those issues. That being said, it is still more usable than Florisboardβ¦
The best one I found so far was the AOSP keyboard with swiping enabled via a proprietary blob. But, well, itβs not entirely opensourceβ¦
AnySoftKeyboard, I use it and love it, but it need a lot of time to be configured exactly like you want
In using ASK with swore, but as you can see, itβs not yelling accurate. I wish that the namespace key would remove the while worked, not letter by letter.
(Iβm using ASK with swipe, but as you can see, itβs not terribly accurate. I wish that the backspace key would remove the whole word, not letter by letter.)
You can set gestures on spacebar to delete whole word. This is why I say anysoft need a lot of time, because probably your needs are already fulfilled, but find the option is an ordeal
I looked at it briefly and just want to confirm - it doesnβt support simultaneous use of multiple languages, od does it?
It does! You can download the additional languages and then configure it how you want (a very common one is to swipe on the space bar)
Thanks for the answer. I wasnβt clear enough, I meant being able to write in multiple languages without having to switch to another language, like what e.g. Gboard does.
Yes, it is possible, but itβs hard to find the option. Here an answer on GitHub https://github.com/AnySoftKeyboard/AnySoftKeyboard/issues/1524
Iβd suggest you openboard, this version is a fork of the original one & is being maintained currently . Have a look at the readme and youβll find how to add gesture swipe.
The APKs are right there on the Github. https://github.com/Helium314/openboard/releases
~~ itβs on F-Droid https://f-droid.org/packages/org.dslul.openboard.inputmethod.latin/ ~~
EDIT: if anyone sees this, how can i strikethrough text? iβm trying to signal this mistake but i am failing
this isnβt the one, the one in fdroid isnβt being maintained, but the fork is.
Heck out this post: https://lemmy.zip/post/154760 As far as I can tell https://github.com/florisboard/florisboard is one that support swipe.
Use gboards with a firewall blocking any traffic from it.
Wait, is using GBoard with blocked internet access actually private? I read other people say it is like a keylogger, and probably would bypass the internet restriction.
How would it bypass the internet restriction imposed on it by an independent firewall?
