“We decided to award this project to Michelangelo. You know, the sculptor that hates painting and begged us to let him work on a Moses sculpture on a tomb instead, and escaped several times only to be brought back in chains until the project was completed. It’s in great hands and won’t have hidden imagery at all.”
Mr. Funucci went on to create the next great Italian masterpiece: pizza. In a fit of rage after losing the contract, marinara was thrown at dough (which landed in cheese and salami), then pelted at the side of a wood fired oven. He would hate Michelangelo until his death at the hands of a Tuscan boar later that year. The boar was tried and found guilty, which is why a Funucci always comes with bacon.
I have been reading The Far Side for years and I own every book. I have no memory of this strip. Thank you for sharing.
I feel like I’m missing the connection Mr. Funucci has with the joke or Michelangelo… can anyone elucidate it for me?
