Boost for Reddit is finally down. Can’t wait for Boost for Lemmy to launch. So far I’ve enjoyed my time here. Thanks for keeping it going everyone.
I left the moment the blackout started. After u/spez AMA and the verge article I knew I was done. I’ve got the front page 5x in 6 years 359k karma. It’s hard not checking Reddit but I got to move past it
Same! Had several accounts that have made the front page multiple times. Nuked all of my accounts yesterday. With that much karma, you can probably get a pretty penny for your accounts.
High karma accounts to incognito advertise things, bad actors trying to spread bad ideas, and Russian/Chinese propaganda on a Western social platform. I’ve already checked out on Reddit, so I don’t give a shit what nefarious things whoever buys my account needs them for.
Why would someone buy an account? I’m not saying they don’t. I just don’t see the point.
It’s not hard to click Jerboa instead of sync. And soon, I can click sync instead of sync. ☺️🤗
Sync for Lemmy has been out for a couple of weeks now. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=io.syncapps.lemmy_sync
Edit: Sorry that posted under the wrong comment.
I’ve checked it a few times using Boost without posting since the API Apocalypse. Since Boost stopped working, I’ve checked Reddit once or twice with the official app. It’s made me appreciate Boost even more.
I thought I remembered how bad the official app was, but it was even worse than I remembered. I’d have quit Reddit years ago had I needed to use the official app all this time!
Just closed my accounts yesterday, 10-year cakeday award. Crazy to think what they are willing to throw away but just like when companies start to cut corners and the smart and talented folks leave, same thing is happening at Reddit. It’s a huge loss, and we’ll build something better and have it be federated, fuck 'em.
Looking forward to boost for lemmy.
I am really impressed that Boost actually survived for a whole week after 1st July. But it gave me a certain anxiety because it could stop working at any time.
Now, I think I can finally complete my migration from Reddit as the only thing that was still holding me was Boost.
It was easier for me to leave once I said fuck it and just deleted my account.
It’s also easier accepting that Reddit just won’t be the same ever again no matter what. Shit is changing. It had already been slowly changing over the years as it became more popular. Quality of content has been declining for a while.
It used to just get a little shitty in the summer when kids were on summer break, but as it became more popular the seasonal change became less noticeable.
Now every thread on Reddit always has some dork talking about how “wE aRe NOw in thE FinD ouT pHasE” (or some variation of “fuck around, find out) like they are saying something original or clever.
Agreed. It’s sad to lose the Elite dangerous community for me, but other than that, lemmy is a straight up upgrade. Almost no idiots whatsoever.
I have the constant fear that much of the reddit userbase even the bad ones will migrate here and we will have another Eternal September.
There’s a slight barrier to entry here that makes it not as accessible for a certain crowd. That may change over time, especially with Threads introducing them to the fediverse. I suppose we’ll see.
Anyone with a ten year or older account has seen the decline of Reddit and hopefully has moved on now. My account was 12 years old, I deleted my content and was still lurking on boost until it stopped working now. When I get time and the motivation I will logon and delete my account. It is refreshing to try something new and I am enjoying Lemmy world a lot so far. With boost for Lemmy coming the future looks good.
I have an 17+ year old Reddit account that I started just a few months after reddit offered accounts. I’ve seen it grow, seen things turn sideways in many ways. But, things come and go, and perhaps it’s Reddits time to wither and die.
I came to Reddit after Digg turned in a clusterfark , so I am glad there is a new site that seems to be more in touch with what users want. I just hope it can be maintained and made profitable for those who devote the effort on it.
Use Liftoff for Lemmy!
I just made the switch from Jerboa (unreliable) and Connect (missing features and unreliable). Liftoff seems to have everything I want from a Reddit-adjacent website.
The only thing that made me bounce off of liftoff was the fact, that there was seemingly no way to block a community.
Absolutely essential feature to me as I like to browse all from time to time and tailoring it to my needs is something I can’t live without.
If you click on the name of the community (in one of their posts in “All”) it’ll take you into that community, and you can then click on the “vertical 3 dots menu” in the upper right corner, where you’ll have the option to block that community. You can then just swipe left to go back to “All” from there
I’m trying Liftoff rn for the very first time and this method seems to work (for me at least).
HTH :)
