I was lucky enough to get a like-new pixel 7 at a good price. It’s in great condition, but it turns out to be an “unlocked” Verizon variant.

Originally I wanted to try out GrapheneOS, and now I’m wondering if it would make sense to keep it anyway. I’d like to degoogle completely, but is it worth a couple hundred extra for a guaranteed oem unlock?

It’s just frustrating because of how good the deal was. I’m really considering it though.

It wasn’t a Verizon deal, just third party refurbished. Maybe low likelihood to not be a Verizon model, but it’s not locked to Verizon anymore.

Are you still using verizon? I’m not super confident about this but I think the Verizon variant came with the mmwave radios that Verizon uses for some of it’s 5g.

Personally I’d save the $$$ and think about buying a true unlocked when it comes time to upgrade

I am on Verizon. I don’t know enough about mmwave to know if I should care, honestly.

I want to say all the pixel 7s came with mmwave, which was different that generations prior. That said, it’s reeeeaaaally hit-or-miss on Verizon. It’s cool to pull a crazy speed in a major city high -density area like a huge airport, but the tech/saturation isn’t there yet for it to be much more than a party trick at this point.
