Absolutely. Seems like a great idea on weekends, but yeah what would the buses do?

Personally? Yes. I don’t drive though, nor do I live along the side streets lol

I’m all for it. Fuck cars. But…

Only if they close the side streets too. Beltline becomes an absolute shitshow every time 17th gets closed for construction.

So basically kick out the cars for the entire area around 17th each weekend/weekday/whatever…

Which is why this will never happen.

I would. I also think they need to consider how people will get to 17th Ave to begin with. Would some giant underground parkade under or near it would be needed for people to get to it? The train station is only near one side of it. I guess that’s why they could only entertain doing it temporarily.

This is really the problem with our massive, incredibly non-dense city (as with every other north american city). We can create these pedestrian friendly pockets, but it’s still not going to eliminate people’s need for a car. So it becomes “drive and park at this place where you don’t need a car”, which is a little ironic. Still way better than nothing, and I’m all for it, but we need to simultaneously be addressing our zoning and transportation plans if we want to actually get serious about this.
