Since this community takes heavy inspiration on what the r/manga sub was doing, why not take one of the best parts?

In case anyone is wondering what that is, I’m referring to this kind of threat: https://www.reddit.com/r/manga/comments/14p1m5o/what_manga_have_you_read_this_week_and_what_do/

Also I did do one of this 3 days ago in case someone doesn’t want to see the reddit, although reddit paints a better example of what I wish it was.

I feel the community would greatly benefit if the mods were the ones that did the post and it was a pinned message that changed every week.

Reasoning is that unless pinned, the post just looses relevancy quick, a lot of people will miss it and also and very importantly, people that come see if they want to join can look at a post where people interact through an entire week and were some interesting conversations and suggestions are born instead of only seeing chapter releases that gather 1 or 2 comments at most since not everyone is keeping up with this many series (especially considering how small the community is right now)

Just in case, I’m not criticizing chapter release discussion, I think they are great as they keep the community with constant new content. It’s just that with the small current size of this community, most of them are not interacted with and people unfamiliar to what these posts try to accomplish will not really get the best impression of the community if every post is almost empty (case in point, the guy like 5 or 6 days ago asking what the purpose of the community is), it’s just the curse that comes with small size for this kind of format.

Yeah if you guys want it I totally think it’s a great way to get people checking in. Only thing is, for the time being, I don’t know a way to implement this (besides doing manual posts with pins as OP mentions). We can start off making posts without a bot as automation is a bit tricky for me on this site ATM. If someone can help out with this, that would be greatly appreciated since my knowledge is very limited. Of course, I’ll also look into how we can make this work and find a chance to consult the other mods.

I think without striving to match reddit’s formatting exactly, at the moment just putting one up and pinning it would be a good start prior to figuring out an automated solution. Could be tedious but having a reminder to refresh it each week or so until better tools come out is a solution. As the other META discussion thread today and previous ones have brought up, I think there’s a concern that users may just feel this community is bogged by update threads only, so having a manually pinned thread as a placeholder for now would give a better impression for new users, a sign that this place is for any posts about manga, just that the low-effort updates tend to be the most common due to being easy even for ex-lurkers like me.

I’d love this. And if you guys do this I might actually record what I read, as well as my impressions, across the week. Just to comment in that thread. (Warning: it’s 90% isekai. Often really, really shitty ones, Alcafus tier.)

Jaja same, I treat it as a blog for my own posts, but I do only one per week. But I do read it constantly to have conversations that don’t merit their own posts or to find recommendations.

I’m all for this, it would be a good way to get a bit of chat going each week which is important for keeping the sublem active!

I’m for it. New to lemmy so not sure if there’s auto-mod to make life easier on the mods

Yeah not sure about the possibility of automation, if it needs to be manual I would volunteer to make the post, but there is still a need for a mod to pin it so it’s pretty much useless if it doesn’t come from them.

I don’t think there is an automod but it should still be possible to make a dedicated bot account for these things… Though it would be a bit more difficult than programming automod… In the end it is up to the mods to decide how to implement something like this

Although, it sounds like a fun challenge to make a software to easily create automations for lemmy… Maybe if I get the time to I might mess around with the idea

This would be a good idea honestly. Especially when we need traction on getting people chatting.
