He has invested many years ago, he doesn’t remember how much and he has never been able to figure it out himself so now im trying to help him on the first page it says “bitcoin” his mail and then some letters and numbers in a string, and then some random notes and a few shopping lists, but on many pages is the exact same shopping list consisting of 7 items so i think that might be the code but idk i have not yet found anthing that could be the code can anyone help me getting his bitcoins back

Do not under any circumstances reveal these strings of letters and digits to anyone on the Internet! This is how people get scammed - stay safe.

Also do not reveal these shopping lists… It sounds like they should d be decoded and put together, and then become the seed phrase. This is more important to protect than the above string. Do not get scammed!

Well what’s the service? Did he buy bitcoin through a service of some sort, or actually set up a wallet? You’re in a hard spot of needing to share more info to get a better answer, but sharing the wrong info can lose it. My best suggestion would be read more. Are there any headers on the paperwork with a company name?

If you don’t have the seed phrase it’s not necessarily lost. If he did buy the bitcoin himself and transferred it into his own wallet it could be on an old flash drive, old computer etc.

There are I think 2048 words used as seed phrases. It might be worth looking up that list of words and seeing if any of your paperwork looks like them. If I remember right you only need the first 3 or 4 letters of each work to have the whole word since it’s a limited list of words they can be if that makes sense.

Okay i will try to figure it out, i think he bought the bitcoin himself but with help from an old friend who he no longer has contact with maybe the first few letters of each item on the list is the first few letters of words in the phrase

There’s a guy out there who recovers lost bitcoins for a 20% fee. He has a good reputation and you only pay if he succeeds. I think his name is Dave.
