The US doesn’t deserve John Oliver. Thank you GB!

He’s on loan, please don’t get scratches on him that won’t buff out.

Yep, in exchange for returning him, we’ll let you keep James Corden. No need to thank us.

Even if you don’t return him for whatever reason, you can keep James Corden.

Yeah but he’s better than cordon’s not and that’s saying a lot.

I dunno, he’s a citizen now. Feels more permanent than just a loan. Sorry think we get to keep him and play with him as we see fit.

Only Adam Driver can play with him as he sees fit

”Without these people, it would be painfully obvious how unfunny I really am.” - John Oliver, probably

permalink

Whatever. I’ve seen him do stand-up and I think he’s funny, but it’s not like Jon Stewart or Stephen Colbert or Conan O’Brien write/wrote all or even most of their own material.

It’s not meant as an insult - this kind of self-deprecation sounds exactly like something he would say.

Yes, because English.

Yeah I got the tone right away. It is something John Oliver would say. And there is some truth to it. I loved the Daniel O’Brien Cracked videos (like After Hours) and he works for John Oliver now. There’s some bits Oliver does that’s just so Daniel O’Brien.

This one in particular: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hk011WMM7t0

It’s kinda trippy to hear John Oliver saying stuff that’s 100% a classic Daniel O’Brien Cracked video.

Pretty sure Jon Stewart was funny because of John Oliver!

I don’t think of Jon as all that funny. I listen to him for his honest and intelligent takes. He could be the least funny person in the world and I’d still listen to him.

I agree the show has mastered this technique. But counterpoint, empathize with an audience that isn’t liberal. As a leftist, I’m rarely learning from this show. But this method helps me laugh at, rather than get angry at, our enemy. Leftists need to have fun.

Go listen to Strike Force 5, the podcast with all the late night hosts! Any profits they make from it (and their sponsors, mostly Ryan Reynold’s businesses) also go to helping their staff!

Can’t movie studios theoretically hold forever, because they still receive money from sources like streaming subscriptions.

Maybe we should start canceling these until the strike is over.

Now is a good time to get a tropical bird and stay away from waste dumps?

Cancel as many as you can. An actor I know said cancelling Netflix would have the biggest impact, so I’ve done that for now.
