perhaps these old items are being resurfaced on 0.17, upvoted by users on those instances, then through the new activity on the posts ending up in ‘hot’ on other instances

That’s one reason I don’t like any view that loads the full picture, I just like to see the thumbnail then decide if I want to see the whole thing.

Are you using wefwef? Maybe try Memmy as I found the ordering of posts varies a lot from app to app
