Are you still on Twitter? If so, why? If not, where have you migrated to?
Most people don’t give a shit about politics and would rather not hear about them. So they don’t.
Twitter, for them, is about connecting to friends. Connecting to hobby groups. That sort of thing. And Twitter is mostly still useful for them. So they don’t even notice the tire fire building up around them.
I heard the recent changes make it so that all the political bullshit got shoveled into your face constantly. Idk, I’m not on there, but I could swear a lot of folks complained that it was unbearable, so they must be putting in some effort to ignore all of that if true.
The kinds of people complaining are likely being fed contentious politics because that’s what’s in their feed and thus what Teh Alegortyhm is feeding them. If all that’s in your feed is pictures of daisies and the occasional rose, the same system will likely feed you flowers.
I stopped using Twitter in favor of X
It has always been the case that way more people talk about Twitter than use it. From the start it has been a media darling with a underwhelming user base, and an even lower participation rate.
The thing that gave it value was the amount of celebrity presence. And as long as celebrities are on it it will be relevant, no matter what Muskie does to cripple it. As soon as there’s a new platform with a growing celebrity presence people will flock there and twitx will die off slowly.
Sunk cost fallacy.
