UPS union workers voted to approve the right to strike Friday, putting the nation’s largest shipping company a step closer to a shutdown that could threaten the transportation of goods and commodities nationwide later this summer.

The Teamsters, the union representing 340,000 UPS employees, authorized a nationwide strike as of Aug. 1

The size and power of Teamsters is awe-inspiring. Solidarity forever.

Even if its performative, the threat will make people sweat. With each industry calling for change, the noose tightens as the general public grows more aware of their collective power. We may have lost that solidarity in the post-war period, but the longer the ruling elite fail to hold up their end of the bargin, the more people will wake up and come on side. Not all, of course. There will always be boot lickers and wannabe lieutenants.

large corporations that use UPS for shipping have backups - my work has plans in place already to use FedEx and/or DHL if and when these kind of things occur.

smaller businesses would be negatively impacted but they would quickly shift to a different package carrier

Something like 6% of the GDP of the entire US passes through the UPS network. 6% of the economy can’t just switch to using a different company.

Do you think that DHL and FedEx have enough excess capacity for the additional load? UPS processes a huge portion of the market and all of these companies are pretty lean by design
