I work in I.T. and am interested in every sub-field. I also study English, Spanish, German, French, Koine Greek, Latin, Mandarin & Swahili. I’m interested in human culture.
I like Linux, but mainly use Windows because of work.
I just barely post there, but I read a ton. I got an account here a few days ago, since I believe their mobile usage will decrease quite a lot on or before the 1st. My original account says I have the 12-year club trophy and I know I lurked for at least a couple of years before that.
I don’t expect to use it on mobile after Sync goes down. I’ll continue to check on the desktop from time to time, but after 3rd-party apps can’t access the API, I expect user engagement to go way down. User knowledge and user engagement is the only reason the site exists.
A lot of the new people coming to Lemmy are (ex) Reddit users. It’s normal that they want communities that have the same names as what they are familiar with.
Look at Ellis Island in New York. People from all over the world came through it and now you have neighborhoods from all over the world in New York. People like what’s familiar, especially when they have to move somewhere else.
For my public-facing server, I use Debian Testing, since I haven’t had any major issues with it’s stability. Auto-upgrades usually work , although there were a few times I had to manually intervene on the latest name-change upgrade from Bookworm to Trixie. I usually don’t even log-in except every few months.
At home, where it will only affect me, and possibly my family dealing with me, if the whole O. S. crashes and has to be rebuilt from backups, I use Arch.
Thank you for posting this! I’m very interested to see what Sync for Lemmy looks like
Thank you for being so diligent about upgrading! It looks good everywhere except on Firefox nightly on Windows 11. It looks good on FF Nightly on Android, looks good on Jerboa, Connect & liftoff, looks good on Edge and Chrome on Windows 11, but on Firefox nightly it doesn’t have any content and I can’t log in or out without restarting the browser. I would upload a screenshot, but I get a JSON error when I try that.
I’m getting something similar. I was expecting it tonight, Bye to a fantastic app and bye to Reddit on mobile.
