It takes more than a week or so to find and get a new job…

People are likely looking or even applying elsewhere as we speak, but why leave your current job where at least you’re still getting paid before you have something else on the table?

I’m not seeing it…

I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s getting DDoS’d to enforce a site-wide blackout or something, either that or they’re performing maintenance while nobody’s around

Server costs are probably a small proportion of their costs, labour costs are probably going to be the biggest part, and I wouldn’t be surprised if Spez’s salary/bonus knocks them from profitable to unprofitable, as being profitable is bad for tax purposes

Yeah 196 has been a thing for years, reddit just hushed them and other disproportionately active subs down with their algorithms to stop them taking over all, which is fair enough really as it’s good to have a mix of subs as long as there’s still a chance for each to show

You can also use relative links, but it’s less intuitive than the default links

I can’t quite remember how and the instance where I figured it out shut down, but it’s on a github issue if you search for it

Loads of (but not only) tech companies give their employees stuff like umbrellas, backpacks, water bottles where sure you could buy your own but really why bother when you’ve been given something for free, usually that’s pretty good quality, that works.

Sometimes you’ll also get actually good clothes that are way beyond “free tshirt” quality as well, eg. I did a placement at a wind turbine manufacturer where all the permanent employees got really nice waterproof gear that was better than the stuff I have as someone who goes hiking fairly regularly, but I don’t think that’s so much of a tech company thing as probably about 75% of the people working at that company are expected to be outside in the rain on a windfarm, which is exposed to the elements by design, at least once in their career. They didn’t have to provide such good kit and certainly not to people working in HR, IT etc. but they did anyway.

There have been orders of magnitude more people living under capitalism than communism

I mean there is a word for that that’s less derogatory: Stalinist

Ok but let’s not pretend that either Marx or Lenin envisaged their form of communism as what Stalin was doing

It’s no different to “free speech” suddenly meaning “free hate speech, but restricted speech on anything else”
