Yet another refugee who washed up on the shore after the great Reddit disaster of 2023
I’m new (signed up today, this is my first comment), but it seems that the thing to do is to go to your own instance, tap the three bars in the upper right and click the magnifying glass to search, then enter the full path of the community you want in the search box. So if you wanted the “News” community on beehaw.org, you’d enter !news@beehaw.org. Then it will come up in the search, but now you’ll be able to tap it and subscribe.
You can get a searchable list of communities at https://browse.feddit.de/
Yes, for sure we need content, but it’s not helping for all us Reddit refugees to start spamming crap. What’s needed here is good content.
It will happen as all the new users get settled and comfortable. If Reddit is an example, there will always be fewer people who create posts than people commenting, and fewer people commenting than lurking. It’s human nature.
I feel like Dr. Seuss could live there. I mean, if he were still living anywhere.
i guess it’s theoretically cool that Elon can build a thing for cheaper than the government can
I’m not even positive that part is really true. I mean the cost to the government is lower, but SpaceX is spending billions of dollars a year. We don’t really know what starship or their lander costs them to make. All these Musk fans always talk about how much cheaper it is, but I’d like to see the numbers.
I work at a company that makes large and small rocket engines (e.g., the ones on SLS/Artemis, and solids for a number of defense programs), and various electrical power systems (e.g., for the ISS and some of the Mars rovers). I manage the space software engineering organization.
Did you read the indictment? If not, you should. It’s not long, and it’s easily digestible. They make a very solid case that Trump knowingly, intentionally held onto some of the most sensitive national security documents that we have, knew he wasn’t allowed to have them, lied about having them, and tried to hide them even from his own lawyers. Meanwhile, he had them stored in some of the least secured places imaginable.
So what do you think the feds should do? Don’t you think not holding someone accountable for that is terrible? And you realize they used a special counsel for the investigation - that’s a role specifically designed to be independent from any political bias or manipulation.
I don’t know, I’ve been a manager for a lot of years, and I see the same dynamic/breakdown on my teams. A small percentage are willing to bring up a topic with the group, no matter how candid and accepting the atmosphere is. Once they do, there are more who will chime in on it to agree or disagree. But half the group will generally stay silent, but might come to me later 1 on 1.
You’d have a much bigger risk being on the other side of the cake and breathing the air from the person blowing. There are some things that can be transmitted by ingesting am infected person’s saliva, but many more things (including COVID) are spread by inhaling droplets, and don’t survive being ingested. Also, not many things are going to live long on cake frosting.
There’s some risk, but not a lot.
Sounds good. Have you tried it? I’m not sure I could stand to buy brisket and not do it in the smoker, but this would certainly be faster.
