I have used both Vmware ESXI and Proxmox.

For home labs I would proably go with Proxmox as it is free and has better hardware support.

ESXI is a very solid product as well but the free version has no backup support. But it is one of the leaders in the industry so it is worth learning if you work in sysadmin.

Yeah it should be clearly marked if AI enhanced. Also I would think new material should already be available in 1080p/4K I am not sure why you would want to AI enhanced it at all.

I could see AI enhancing being useful in content that wasn’t ever released in 1080p or 4K. For example there are many old TV shows they only ever got a DVD release or the source film was never scanned into 4K resolution.

Yes i have heard of 4k77. It has been awhile since i have looked into it. But I thought that was mostly film scanning to get the 4K resolution. Super cool either way.

The Abyss is a great movie, I bet it did look amazing upscaled.

It will be cool if we could get some of these great Reddit clients working on Lemmy

It really depends on what your ultimate goal is.

NAS is great for centralized storage for multiple devices to access. But isn’t totally necessary if your just looking to store data and access that date on a single device at a time. don’t discount buying two external hard drives. one for storage and the other for backup.

If you really want a NAS Then there are many options. You could go a prebuilt solutions, Synology, QNAP, TerraMaster etc…

If you have an old computer laying around, that can be an option as well (Although power usage could be an issue. )

The biggest mistake I see new comers make, is thinking putting multiple drives together in a redundant configuration (RAID) is a backup. This isn’t the case you better off going with 2 single drives and have a daily backup between the two of them.

Exactly these app have had years of development and polish I would hate for it to just get thrown away.

Not to mention I could see it being an easier transition for users going from Reddit to Lemmy if they have somewhat of a familiar interface.

Being able to mark post as read, and have them be hidden from my feed. Or hide posts I have upvoted/downvoted.

Also it would be really nice to have the ability to group communities together from my view point. So instead of a single lemmy feed with all of my subscriptions mixed together I can have multiple feeds each based on say a single topic. Say I have a group called Gaming. and in that I have !gaming@lemmy.ml and !linux_gaming@lemmy.ml !gaming@beehaw.org etc… etc… I think this would also help the issue with having similar communities on multiple instances. For example We have !technology@lemmy.ml !technology@beehaw.org I could subscribe to both and just use a single group to view them both. Instead of having to view one at a time.

Edit,

Oh here is another one. It would be great if lemmy links were automatically converted to your local instance.

For example someone linked this https://lemmy.blahaj.zone/post/61827

Sure this works for everyone but it takes you out of your lemmy instance if your not using lemmy.blahaj.zone. I am a user of lemmy.ml, so from my prospective going to lemmy.blahaj.zone doesn’t give me any options to interact with that content. I would need to manually find that post from my instance that I am logged into. From my prospective that link should have been converted into lemmy.ml link and go here https://lemmy.ml/post/1160417 so I can seamlessly interact with it.
