It is likely that they have burned friends out one by one and all they have left is you. BUT, you have to have your boundaries.

It sounds like they need therapy and possibly medication, if I am reading between the lines here. That would be the first step to changing the pattern for them. Unfortunately, all you can do is recommend things. They have to take the next steps. 

Yah, I don’t get that. Buddy is quite clearly friendly and non-romantic. Some people feel it is gendered, and probably why you have kids named Buddy. Oh well.

I know that GMO gets a bad name, but taking indigenous food plants and modifying them to be even more suited to the area could add yet more benefits.

Having the seed lines owned by the public would be the only way to make it viable for developing countries tries, though.
