Ok, glass is acceptable. They’re both technically infinitely recyclable (unlike plastic).

Although it is easier to get aluminum back to a usable state. You can for instance melt down a whole vat of aluminum and reprocess the whole lot of it. But a similar vat of mixed glass, you can melt it down but it’s hard to get all the color out of a mix of clear brown and green bottles, and you really want a clear base product.

100%.

Plastic works for beverage containers, but aluminum does a better job anyway. We should just use aluminum, always. There are even aluminum containers with screw tops, plastic is just unnecessary.

I’m nominating this for the “best metaphor of the day” award.

Well done!

Sometimes humor just makes it easier to communicate, it can be a useful tool. For example, look at Ted Lasso, his whole thing is that he’s a leader who uses humor and empathy as his primary leadership tools. I know this is a fictional character, but those are real techniques, so I think this point still holds.

Congrats! Now you guys can use collective bargaining to ensure you’re paid for every single bug you code. This is huge!

Seriously though, unions are good for the industry, I’m happy to see this is continuing at ever more software companies.

JD Vance aside, why does anyone like venmo? Why does anyone want a social network in their payment processing? Isn’t that obviously a terrible idea?

I mean especially given how touchy Americans are about money, why are people suddenly signing up to make it all public? It seems like a huge (self)violation of privacy.

It’s like you’re arguing that only white men should run for president because women and minorities will wind up causing too many problems for the country.

Whoa! I said nothing like that! I think you know that’s a complete misrepresentation. I’m saying that there are too many people in this country (on both sides of the aisle) with racist and sexist leanings (that they may not even be aware of) for it to be likely for Harris to win right now. I think Harris would do a fine job if she did win.

I just don’t trust the voters of this country to see past their biases. I think if Harris had been the candidate from the start we would have had time to combat those concerns and make her a viable candidate, but coming in late like this she’ll seem like a replacement, like the Democrats’ plan B. And that’s a harder position to win a campaign from, a position I don’t think is viable given America’s many biases.
