california spending 100k+ per prisoner but renting them out for pennies is one of the insane unsustainable aspects of the system and then going and saying “we can’t afford to let them out” is mind numbing.

The whole circus is just to keep wages down and arrest anybody folks don’t want in their shitty suburb.

I think in the US a lot of murders probably get classified as suicides, accidents, and self defense to avoid launching an expensive, dangerous investigation, so I would also say that suicides are overreported.

Except the damage these pension changes will cause to these workers is likely trillions of euros over the next 60 years. Even if they did 100 billion in short term damages it would still be a better investment in the long term to prevent these changes as written’

I think its more or less the same, spacially. I think the distinction breaks down more with like a wiffleball, which I’d argue is one hole with many exits.

Proof? no, if there were proof our data would simply have to be better than it is. Are there a lot of statistical and geographical tendencies working against this data that are easily pointed out, yes.

The biggest ones: suicides usually occur in places where the body will be discovered and people who commit suicide tend to want to be found.

Homocides tend to be covered up more often or occur in more remote locations; lots of unsolved homocides end up as missing persons, especially in less dense areas. A few are staged as suicides or accidents.

So there’s absolutely a tendency for the data to skew in certain directions. This isn’t even addressing more chaotic problems liks a lack a lack of qualified coroners, incentives to not charge police who just riddle people with bullets, etc.

lol telling american businesses to pay living wages is like to telling an alcoholic to stop drinking. They’re going to open employment to like 6 year olds.

This is like telling somebody who is abused to do nothing. If you can’t leave you fight the abuser if you can, you destroy the things they enjoy if you can’t.

And I’m sorry but if you own a business that survives by selling to the plunderers, you’re part of why they want to take that money and time and why cops are shooting people.

I don’t think this bothers US businesses much, likely they’ll legalize it.
