I’ve literally just signed up because of the Reddit policy changes killing off third-party apps, and I’m already confused by some of the conversations on here about the “fediverse” and some stuff about Threads and EEE (whatever that is).
I’m just like, I wanted an alternative to Reddit, what the hell is all this? 😂 Even signing up to this was confusing and I consider myself more tech-savvy than most. I think the process needs to be made simpler to encourage more ex-redditors to sign up.
I remember buying this in the hope of it being another Burnout Paradise, but it was just a poor man’s version. 🙁
Can’t you sign up to communities in other instances without signing up to that instance?
That’s what I’ve done, but I’m also new so not sure if I’m doing anything right at the moment. 😂
Pro-tip: Use https://12ft.io/ to bypass any paywall.
Or just Googling Ryan Reynolds got around this one: https://www.ft.com/content/e718b81c-b1ce-4c50-be7b-579c9079144f
Pro-tip: Use https://12ft.io/ to bypass paywalls on sites other than the FT.
For the FT, just Google the article and you can read it.
Tbh, I tried Mastodon when everyone was raving about it, and even with a guide I couldn’t make sense of it.
Lemmy is a little bit confusing to begin with as I’m not overly familiar with the fediverse, but at least it’s easy to get the hang of if you’ve ever used Reddit. Mastodon seemed like a nightmare to navigate, but maybe it’s easier now, I don’t know.
This the same company that owns WhatsApp and is so dead against unencrypting messages on that platform? 🤔
