This is correct in a sense. While the US has a decent amount of stand out technology, comparably good training, comparably well equipped soldiers, etc. The true power of the US military is the world wide infrastructure it has developed to get whatever force needed, to where ever force is needed, within a few hours to 3 days. So, yeah, the US military being able to deploy fast food chain restaurants pretty much anywhere in the world, is a demonstration of it’s reach and resources, if an unconventional one.

I doesn’t work either. Appeals to nationalism, religion, and even straight up paying and providing luxury benefits to people, in order to have them start having more kids just did nothing in the long run. The world is different. Your children are more likely to become independent adults when you put your resources into a smaller number of children. The cost/benefits ratio of having large families to produce stability, and increase the chances at least one child will be successful, has completely reverse from 100+ years ago.

Had an English teacher that did this. Once asked if I could go to the bathroom and he replied with this statement. So I said “Not if you don’t let me.” He rolled his eyes and called me a smart ass, like he wasn’t. Yoi, I hated that guy.

I have personally worked with Fetterman a number of times while I was working for Allegheny county. He had some moderate stances on things like Israeli support, but not like this. Also, he spent his entire time as mayor of Braddock pushing a lot of very progressive things. He actively turned down opportunities to not be living in his office, and get highly paid, in order to fight a large amount of resistance he faced, even among the people he directly worked with in Braddock. He had a provable, positive, long term, impact on Braddock. He demonstrated that a lot of progressive ideas works, because Braddock implemented them, and it worked. This had a impact on how Pittsburgh, and Allegheny county in general, looked at the future, and how to best design it.

He has demonstrated he is staunchly pro-labor and, in the past, has demonstrated so via sacrificing political payola to do that, among many other progressive things. So I am very conflicted at this serious increase in, what was previously a relatively moderate, stance on Israel. I have to wonder if it was the stroke, or did he strike a deal with AIPAC.

In gates’ case it was a father with enough money he could attend one of the few schools that he could have access to a computer and a program to learn IT. While ALSO having an investment banker uncle who was willing to invest millions into his company early on.

Not a moment of self reflection on what might be wrong with the institution of policing, just feeling bad for themselves.

Still a mystery why trust in police has been eroding.

the police and justice systems in Japan and Korea are awful. Seriously look up articles and videos on the subject. There is plenty out there, from credible sources.

My experience has been more like

“As a cat I am no one’s… Hey, where are you going with the food? Hey, hey! HEY! I AM YOUR CAT! I AM YOUR CAT!”

We held a hearing about whether or not the mayor should also be the Judge. The mayor has decided that the mayor runs the court impartially and there is no need for a 3rd party magistrate.
