In my experience there are many good and positive casual users on reddit as well as toxic and obnoxious techies. Knowing how to navigate an obtuse UI is not a mark of good character.

I have to say that I had a really rough whiplash when I saw what kind of communities the admins of lemmy have created and are maintaining (I guess that is what you mean by tankies). Absolutely shocked that this is the credo of people making this “open/free/not controlled by company” software. A company might be preferable at this point >.>

These 2 people are the ones we’re supposed to put the faith into to maintain and develop the framework and architecture for all these potential sites? If we fund lemmy we fund them, if they give up then nobody else is probably going to take over, it sounds like a disaster just waiting to happen.

And okay, nice to hear that beehaw is blocking those communities but we’re still federated with everything else there, if I’m understanding it correctly, and it’s the same users that can easily cross between the instances? That’s not very reassuring either.

I think there’s been talk of implementing “multireddits” so you can combine them in your own feed but who knows when it’s coming. I personally think it’s good to have the communities as segmented as possible, if one goes to shit then you can easily just stop participating there and move to others.

I used to keep up but eventually just burned out. I do plenty at work so if I do have a hobby project in mind, I tend to do something other than just webdev, to spite it up a little bit.

It does feel scary sometimes just how quickly you can get outdated, especially with frontend. I want to stick to backend but it feels like all the fancy jobs eventually end up with 90% work being on front, APIs and DB seem like the easiest part of it all (especially if managed properly)

Any ETA for PoE2? I remember seeing trailers for it years ago, they released videos showcasing new skill/gem systems and how it’d be a slower paced game with less spam… then nothing for years really, has it run into issues or sth?

Do you have automated builds for every snapshot that needs to be tested or is QA running them locally?

I’d kinda love to see that, it’d be huge. Could even get some of the larger sub mods to maybe open kbin or lemmy instances instead? I’d be great to have their motivation and talent in a community not dependent on reddit’s good will.

Revolt seems to be to Discord what Lemmy/Kbin are to reddit, but I dont see most people bothering with it unless discord makes some reeaaallly huge mistakes to piss the community off.

Same principle (which is why they are compatible), but different tech and developers. Kbin also has a section where you can read and write regular hashtag-based mastodon-like posts in communities instead of completely relying on threads.
