Ive seen a lot of opinions like this, and for me its missing the entire point of the fediverse: instances are free to make their own decisions.

If you think defederating for anything other than the most extreme reasons is bad, thats fine. There are instances like that

And if people are happy with more defederation for any reason, those instances exist

Any meta-discussion about how widely defederation should be used across ALL instances is inherently kinda dumb

And as an aside: people are really overreacting to beehaw temporarily defederating from two big instances to deal with an unprecedented rise in users and activity. Its not a big deal.

Thats the point of the phrase. The idea is so unbelievable that it needs to be personally verified before it can be taken seriously…

Not to mention, you can see something and still not ‘know’ - stage magic, for one.

See also: ‘it has to be seen to be believed’; ‘i cant believe my eyes’; the word ‘unbelievable’

Easy, Mac

The scientists dont just say it. They document and present evidence, which is then reviewed, reproduced and confirmed by other scientists

These men… not so much

‘Mongoloid’ is a slur - it was once used to refer to people with Down Syndrome, due to a C19th doctor comparing physical features of Down Syndrome parients with those of Mongolian people.

This doctor wrote that Down Syndrome was a reversion to an ‘inferior race’.

It is both racist and ablist :/

“Green capitalism” only exists if green energy is more profitable than climate-harming alternatives

Given the multiple decades of oil and gas infrastructure, that’s not realistic.

In theory, consumer demand for green energy could make this a reality, but it would have to be a massive swing. And in practice, most consumers will go for the cheapest option - in many cases, given their resources, they have to.

The other way that green energy could become more profitable is through heavy government regulation. So… yeah you could have a green ‘capitalism’ if the State manages the market, and withstands the corporate pressure to withdraw. But that has literally happened nowhere

I suppose hypothetically you could argue that IF a company invested heavily in green technology and IF that investment resulted in a cheaper form of energy, AND that technology also applied to the supply chain, then we could have green capitalism. But i mean that’s highly speculative and it also would be entirely a coincidence

Just because you don’t highlight ‘all ages events’ doesn’t mean it’s not part of the quote

(But i will say, this instance seems way happier to defed from hexbear than from the racist, anti-trans exploding heads, which was apparently super controversial for some reason)
