This is the same reason I uninstalled the Facebook app eons ago. It got so bad, every 3rd post was an ad or a “suggested page” and the option to go to my preferred view (sort by most recent, friends only) was buried in 4 layers of clicks. I was able to get around this for a while by bookmarking the “most recent” feed on the mobile site but that now just redirects to the front page. I don’t even look at Facebook any more, I just keep it around because I still get event invitations.

But of course, the developers are going to get the completely wrong message from this dropoff in engagement…

Yeah, but now there’s streaming and a boatload of old content that people can catch up on. Promotional tours and live events will suffer, of course, but that’s only for new and future content.

Granted, I don’t know how sustainable a business model relying on streaming will be in the long term. I seem to recall reading somewhere that the reason shows are disappearing from platforms is because the studios don’t want to have to pay residuals (ironically, one of the things that the writers and actors are striking over)

Honestly moisture sensors would be nice to have later, but you don’t need to start with that. A smart irrigation timer from companies like Rachio will be just fine for the begining. It adjust the watering schedule based on current weather conditions so you don’t have to make manual changes from season to season.

That’s a good call, with a caveat.

I started watching TOS after seeing the 2009 movie and was quite, er, taken aback with the change in pace lol. I was still able to handle old Trek because I watch a lot of older TV, but I’ve tried to show certain classic episodes to my husband and the pacing frustrates him even when he’s otherwise really enjoying the story.

I’ve been doodling around with Plex and sonarr in a Docker setup on my Linux box, but I’ve run into some issues that I can’t figure out. Any good resources to recommend for creating the optimal setup?

Can you freeze what you don’t eat? I have similar issues because it’s hard to cook for one without having to then eat the leftovers for a week…

One issue in particular that took a minute to figure out with docker, if you need the containers to talk to eachother, you have to be aware that certain types of docker network connections will not automatically see the other containers, even if both containers are connected to your home network.

Yup, this is exactly the issue I haven’t been able to figure out. For some reason, the files I download in Sonarr are associated with a user group that Plex isn’t a part of, so Plex can’t see the files (and I’ve tried adding Plex to that group and it still doesn’t work, argh). I know you can specify a UID and other specifics when you initialize a container, but inside the container itself that doesn’t seem to apply, it sets its own user parameters. I’m about ready to throw in the towel and just run the software on my machine itself with a VPN, because then at least everything will be able to talk to each other.

Omg you just made my day! I read the Aeronaut’s Windlass not knowing that he’d taken a long hiatus, and was bummed at the thought that I might have to wait a few years or more for the next one (looking at you, Rothfuss and Martin). Gonna check now to see if my library has this one in stock.

I actually grew up on a good version of tuna casserole. We never used the condensed soup or potato sticks, we made a bechamel and topped the dish with parmesan and breadcrumbs. My parents did some weird things when trying to use up leftovers, but I will give them credit for refusing to use the canned/premade versions of a lot of things.

I’m not seeing Foyle’s War listed anywhere here, so I’ll throw that one in. Murder mysteries in Blitz-era England.
