Because he directly refuted what you’re saying…
“No, I never have,” Biden said when asked by a reporter on Wednesday if those discussions were taking place. “I don’t have any plans on one term.”
I don’t see how that conflicts. He says he wants to be a bridge to a new generation or whatever, and specifically declined to state whether or not he would seek a second term when asked. That’s not commiting to being a 1 term president at all. No candidate is ever going to close that door so early.
You are incorrect. Alabama also had to move back their filing deadline to accommodate the DNC.
I’m not making an argument about the filing deadlines, just stating what the issue was. My only concern would be making sure the Democratic candidate is on every state ballot no matter what, even if only to help down ballot candidates.
Look at the wave of right wing populists winning across Europe. Hungary, Italy, Netherlands, and a bunch of other countries have elected these kind of anti-establishment candidates. Same pattern as “MAGA” conservatives in the US. These people don’t win elections because they’re competent. They aren’t even good campaigners. They get elected because they’re promising to trash the system.
It’s not just that people don’t feel like the government is working for them, it’s that they are looking to authoritarianism to provide solutions.
because he’s the incumbent
There’s an argument to be made that incumbency could actually be a drag right now. People don’t feel the government is working for them and they blame those currently in power. We saw with Trump that a lot of people will vote for any kind of change, even if it’s objectively worse.
like he said he was going to do in the beginning.
Biden never said he would only seek 1 term. Some unidentified staffer told a reporter that during the campaign. I don’t think it’s fair to hold him to a commitment he never made.
Agreed that he’s done a great job and now is the time to pass the baton.
Yeah as long as the party meets the state filing deadlines there isn’t any problem. The issue with places like Ohio is that the DNC scheduled their official nomination vote to occur after the Ohio filing deadline.
Fully agreed on Harris, just providing an example. I honestly don’t know if swapping Biden is the right call. I just want them to make a choice and go back to focusing on the danger the GOP brings. If Biden says he can do it, I’ll campaign for him as hard as I possibly can. I will do the same no matter who the Democrats nominate.
We just have to stop the infighting. I really wish the Democratic establishment was more responsive to their constituents, but now is not the time to punish them electorally.
And how would we get them in the ballot in 50 states in late July? That is an impossibility.
I don’t disagree with you, but this is a little misleading. Whoever the Democratic Party nominates will be on the ballot. They don’t need to gather signatures or anything like that to gain ballot access. They could nominate Harris tomorrow and she would be on the ballot.
Honestly, I think we’re all tired of responding to this same absurd argument. The gamble that you propose is risking fascism AND doesn’t have a high likelihood of success. Joe Biden stepping aside doesn’t magically make Bibi stop the war. Bibi needs this shit to keep going to stay in power/out of prison. You’re doing nothing to change that dynamic, if anything you’re helping Bibi. And Joe Biden losing because they don’t agree to a ceasefire does not stop the war, it escalates it.
I’m done responding to this, have a nice evening.
