I think it might just be meant to depict a fat little Japanese peasant/laborer. The bandana-style headband tied in the front smacks of some kind of worker like a farmer or a fisherman. I don’t know why people keep suggesting it’s the Buddha. It’s clearly not (too fat, and has none of the defining physical characteristics). Nor is it Budai/Hotei (which is the fat guy a lot of people confuse with Buddha).
It’s a neat little inkwell though. Looks like it’s meant to be a stand for your pen as well. It reminds me of a lot of the tourist junk my grandpa brought back from Japan in the '50s when he was stationed in Korea during his military service.
For browsing on desktop I really miss the Reddit Enhancement Suite browser extension. Continuous scrolling, being able to choose how links behave, dragging across images to enlarge, being able to rotate images, speed controls for gifs, just generally being able to customize how the site works so that it’s most convenient for me: RES just made Reddit so much nicer to use. I really hope someone builds something similar for Lemmy.
I have a fantasy where DeSantis and his supporters cause Florida to secede, then all the most die-hard evangelicals, fascists and chuds, the worst the republicans have to offer, all flock there to protect their glorious revolution. Then the rest of us can just wall it off and have healthcare, sane governance, green energy, adult discourse, and all the stuff we’re prevented from having because republicans refuse to support anything unless it allows them to be cruel to someone.
I’ve been using a HydroFloss for years. When my original one stopped working I used a WaterPik brand handheld one for a while, but it was pretty terrible in comparison, so I ended up shelling out for another HydroFloss. They’re about $100, which I think is about on par with the nicer WaterPik models. One nice thing about HydroFloss is that they sell replacement parts so if the pump or the handle/hose breaks you can replace it yourself for like $20 instead of buying a whole new one.
It’s not that often that I’m in a car I’m not driving anymore, but when I’m a passenger you can bet your ass I’m imagining a little ninja dude running along side the car, doing sick ninja flips over stuff on the side of the road.
All the words that sound the same and/or are spelled the same. I always thought sentences like I saw the saw saw the seasaw must be hella confusing for non-native speakers.
Forks? I’m 40% forks!
I really like it generally. I mostly only miss some of the more niche subreddits I belonged to. There are equivalents for some of them here, but it doesn’t seem like there’s a large enough user base yet to have the active engagement and frequent new content the ones on Reddit have. Other than that I just miss the features of Reddit Enhancement Suite, When I’m browsing on desktop I try to drag-to-zoom some image or another at least three or four times a session, and I really miss continuous scrolling.
