Apple is already doing that for the USB port or lack of it. So certainly possible, but it does mean that a to enter one of the largest markets in the world, you have to offer it, which should make it much more common in the rest of the world. So for Android users, this should give everybody in the world access to decent removable battery phones.
Welcome to the solarpunk sailors. No pollen outside ports and insects are for those who stay behind.
We must understand that we are in a massive competition to who has the best system and that means propaganda. That is a huge problem of building in a neoliberal fashion as it cuts any sort of beauty for cost purposes. That is wrong as beauty is not only improving the actual building or thing, but also makes it last longer as we lack the desire to destroy it for something better. In my opinion there is one project necessary, which has to create a lot of new great construction in a solarpunk world, which is beautiful. That is the massive improvment to public transport. We need some massive new central stations in cities and it would be muc better to build them in a solarpunk style then anything else. Same is true for large scale improvements of current stations. They need to be made more beautiful.
First of all I disagree about the impossibility to win against climate change. We already have basicly all the tools for a good life for everybody on the planet, which is mostly enviromentally friendly. The big answer to a lot of these problems is degrowth and some green growth. We can already see some rather large degrowth moves in more labour rights and the rather large fight against raising the pension age in France. Less work means less damage. As for going green, we do invest a lot in green technology and fossil fuels consumption is going down in large parts of the world. Even more we see a clear trend in lower populations over the coming years, so global growth is slowing. China might have a massive economic crisis, so the biggest growth source in terms of emissions might very well come to a halt. Just to be clear this is not fast enough by a wide margin, but this idea of complete collapse of the current system seems extremly unlikely to me. Countries can take a lot of hitting, before they collapse and humans can adapt surprisingly quickly. We just went trhou Covid to show that and many wars show similar developments. If you would tell the world that fossil fuels would no longer be available in a year, I am pretty sure the Americas and Europe as well as some other places would survive this somewhat well. Obviously with some big changes, but they would be recognisable to the outside world. Many poor countries would also do okay.
What is true is that conflict is rising in the world. China is growing in strength and is able to challenge the US, there is a large war in Europe, food prices cause instability, demographic trends enable workers to fight against capital more and more, climate change causes shortages in many countries and so much more. That creates possibilities, which should be seized. But this is not total collapse and that is honestly good news. Societies need some organization, which currently is provided by the state. Just removing the state, without replacing it with another form of organization, which can be anarchist, will just cause society to collapse. This would be a complete disaster. Just because something sucks, does not mean the opposite is better.
A big reason for that is the missing Fehrman Belt fixed link currently under construction. The lack of that forces trains to add about an 1h 45min longer journey from Copenhagen to Hamburg. Other then that the German grid is about as dirty as the US grid and Swedens and Denmarks are both much cleaner, so emissions should be lower.
Legally binding targets mean legal action is possible. So somebody is very likely to sue the Scottish government to cause them to change course. Other then that the SNP is ruling in a very loose coalition with the Greens. They only need a single vote for a majority, which could very easily come from other parties, such as Labour, Lib Dems or maybe even the Conservatives. Basicly they are about as weak as a party in some form of government can be.
So basicly the US wants to invest in Turkmenistan to buy gas. Plugging is the right thing to do, but this sounds more like plug it and then take out the gas in a controlled manner to sell it to China, US or Europe. Turkmenistan is a comic book level dictatorship, but with very real suffering and fossil fuel investments are basicly always bad.
