These things are awesome. I first got into digital modes with DStar and an Openspot. Now I got openspots and a pi-star mmdvm running at the house, along with a Shari allstar node. These all have been super fun to build. Building is always the best way to approach these things too.
Do you have documentation on this? I would like to build one.
Yeah for most people time accuracy can be had with a stratum 3 NTP server. In this case I was looking at your project for my HackRF. But it leads down that rabbit hole of should I go overkill and use rhodium vs an OXCO, then that lead down the rabbit hole of NTP servers with multiple disciplines. :)
Bummer, it looks like the i-Gate github page hasn’t been updated in over 2 years. This seems like a promising project. it does look like the original project is more active.
I like the idea of non-radio chat. I am sure if we all have one hobby in common, others would soon follow.
Yeah I can definitely see a situation where they heard something. It was recorded, and then someone put the pieces together. What I doubt happened was the Navy heard something, then concluded that the something they heard was 5 deep ocean tourists dying in a rapid compression event. Then proceeded to keep their mouth shut while the Coast Guard fruitlessly looked for the vessel.
Maybe there was something the Navy could have done more to prevent the search from running for many days. But they had to err on the side of caution. Imagine a world where they said the sub imploded, the Coast Guard gave up looking. Then years later someone found the sub fully intact sitting at the bottom of the ocean. Not a good thing to have on your conscious.
