Awesome! I’ve been waiting for something like this! It’d be even better if there was a Linux client for Drive.
This kind of stuff is what makes the fediverse kinda annoying sometimes
I love this personally. Glad to see Proton slowly becoming a proper alternative to Google or MS.
For manga: if they provide a good way to read it in (human) English without region locking, there’s no real problem. Something like MangaPlus works decently well for chapter releases. Something like MangaUp sucks ass. I buy volumes and am subscribed to MangaPlus. Most of what I pirate isn’t even available in English.
For anime: stop with the idiotic exclusives and region locking, so there can be more services. CR needs to suck less and HIDIVE needs to open up their service to the rest of the world again. It’s hypocritical to complain about piracy when you never intended to sell it here anyway. No money is lost. Similar to manga, I buy Blurays (that work with my player) and am subscribed to CR (unwillingly, RIP Wakanim) and Netflix. I pirate what’s not available to me.
Will it solve everything? No, but it will for the majority
That’s fucked up. I really wish there were legal alternatives to CR here. HIDIVE pulled out, Wakanim merged with CR and now it’s just CR for 90% of anime. There is no choice. Yeah sure Netflix and Disney+ have the occasional anime, but the vast majority is on CR. How the merger got past market authorities is wild to me. It’s a near monopoly. I watch on my TV, so sailing the seven seas for streaming sucks too.
edit: lol wouldn’t have pegged this crowd for a sensitive bunch. my mistake, carry on trumpeting your audits lol
This isn’t about ‘trumpeting audits’ or ‘being sensitive’ or brand loyalty or whatever. Your comment just comes across as either wilfully ignorant, or contrarian. Audits and sharing those audits like this are essential for transparancy and building trustworthiness, especially when it comes to security and privacy. If a VPN would say ‘no logs’ but never proves it with transparent audits, they’re untrustworthy. Simple as that. This serves as proof they don’t log.
I don’t see Proton acting special here. Just a report and why it’s important. And they do share all the other stuff you’ve mentioned, so I’m not sure why you seem to ignore that.
Sidenote, if it matters: while I am a Proton customer, I don’t use ProtonVPN
