I went to a community college in the very early ‘90s. Tuition was $28. Parking permits were $25. Outrageous parking fees.
The next year they raised the tuition to $65.
You would not believe the outrage.
My most expensive textbook was $45. That was a huge expense when the rest were $12-$20.
Gen X here. The “good old days” lasted until the early ‘90s.
Then I went to a “real” college and got introduced to $100+ textbooks and yearly tuition that cost what a modest car would run.
You’re absolutely right. If you don’t have time to invest in getting good at multiplayer, pvp can be frustrating at best. I’ve got thousands of hours invested in my preferred game and I’m pretty damn good, I’m very competitive, but even I quit a game occasionally because of other players.
Despite the gaming community’s constant rhetoric that “nobody cheats, git gud kid, learn how to aim”, cheating is rampant. From players that abuse aim assist with devices like the chronos max to just good old-fashioned aimbots, they can ruin anyone’s game, even mine. And even I quit games when players are so obviously using artificial aim assists that it’s just not fun, and popular FPS shooters are the prime targets for cheaters. Even if you are good, there’s more than enough people willing to wreck your game.
The people that vote for trump don’t care.

Interesting take. I’m Gen X, and when online play came about it was amazing after so many years of singleplayer games, or games that your opponent had to be physically present to play on another controller next to you. So to reject online play to me seems…odd.
That said, I think online and always-online have done a lot of damage to gaming, from DRM to loss of physical ownership to loss of good singleplayer storylines in triple-A games.

There’s no OSFA solution. Yeah, it sucks if you’re renting and can’t run cat 6 everywhere. All the same, you can still run a hard wired cam to a NVR/NAS in at least one location inside, but then you face the same difficulty anyone else does of securing the storage from theft - or you can have it upload to a cloud as quickly as is practical so you get off-site storage images and alerts of the theft.
There’s a lot of opportunistic thefts near where I live. Honestly, the odds of actually catching a good image of the thieves’ faces are petty low. If they know enough to jam the wifi, they also probably know enough to hide their faces. The thieves in our area all wear hoodies and hide their faces somehow, so all you get is the alert that someone is there and an image of a hoodied individual.
Yep. We have a mix of wifi/hard wired PoE. If you can handle crawling around in the attic or wherever, PoE is the easiest and best option. No need to run wiring to any sort of electrical box to power 110v for cams. Wireless is super-easy, but usually you have to pay for cloud services on top of that. Home hard wired with an NVR or NAS is the way to go.
