I’m using Connect for Lemmy currently and it seems to be working okay. Just takes some getting used to, of course.

Fuck spez, amen. I’m actually really impressed by how good Lemmy is working given that it is still a newer platform. Big fan of FOSS, so that’s a huge plus for me as well!

I will be donating to third-party apps and instances to help support this lovely thing we have going on here.

Stay beautiful, y’all!

As with all innovation that was started at behest of public (taxpayer) initiatives, companies are initially greeted with wide open frontiers - new horizons to exploit, extract, and dominate.

In the fledging stages of a startup, they will sing praises of openness and public good and the importance of community. However, once they have reached a certain point they pull the ladder up behind them, close the door, and claim they did it all based on their own ingenuity and merit.

We’re it not for the effort of the public - through the creation of the internet, and the effort the average person has put into making content and value on the internet - these companies would not exists. Don’t forget that. People; regular people, are what make the internet a place worth visiting and using. These companies are just extracting from the richness that we generate.

I feel like this is their reaction to the feeling that (1) frontiers are not as wide as they used to be in the younger days of the internet and (2) economic undercurrents driving them to put the clamps on, locking in their user base and trying to squeeze every dime they can before things go tits-up.

Well it appears to work, internet stranger!

I think Lemmy is going through a lot of growing pains right now on a few fronts. Hopefully things will smooth out in the near future. If you like what you see here, consider donating to an instance/app so that people can develop this wonderful thing further.

Have a good day!

I’m excited to see what new and interesting features will be implemented that we never could have gotten on Reddit. FOSS (free and open source software) has a history of being an environment where innovation can be fostered, unrestrained by the whims of the market.

I was also having issues with lemmy.world, but that was yesterday when there was a huge influx of users and they were also doing an upgrade at some point. So far today I haven’t got an error, we’ll see how it goes!

I read that account migration between instances is a planned feature, it’ll be nice once that is implemented.
