This feels like one of those chain messages that we would get on Facebook asking us to do something like posting “I don’t give permission to Facebook to use my data”. Except that this time it is actually true!

I have added “_nomap” to my SSID and now I have to read the manual for the wifi extender, which by default appends _EXT to the SSID 🙄

I would much rather see a “_yesmap” opt-in policy!

During the late 1990s the overwhelming majority of people in my community believed in creationism and were against teaching the theory of evolution. I witnessed several debates in which metaphysics, the bible, and bad statistics were used to argue in favor of creationism. But even in these debates the opposition was highly controlled. The works of authors such as Christopher Hitchens and Richard Dawkins were forbidden, and these authors were demonized because they were ‘immoral atheists’. I was dumbfounded by the degree to which the catholic majority would censor and distort information.

Regardless of whether I agree with the majority or not on a given topic, I would never fight for censorship because you never know when you will be part of the minority that the majority has chosen to label as “misleading” or “demonic” or “conspiratorial” or whatever.

On the other hand… There is clearly some trolling/baiting/spamming going on in that community. I think that if you ban the community or the user they will continue trying to stir drama. Looks like some kind of trolling weekend project. I am not sure what the best way to deal with that is.

Ouch. The questions were not even hardballs. When the interviewer stated that the system is fair because one freely agrees to the company’s terms and conditions of employment, I would have been the one laughing. If “starving” is the alternative then perhaps the bargaining power of the employers is a bit unbalanced.

But I don’t judge the guy. He must have been tripping on nerves. It would have been a good idea to pick someone a bit more prepared to face this kind of pressure. But hey, he was brave. Maybe they got the opportunity with short notice and no one else was willing to step up.

I looked through the git, it was removed here: https://github.com/searx/searx/pull/2566

It appears that Yandex would respond to requests with a captcha and they were unable to fix it, so they removed it.

The best approach is actually did not respond in any kind of significant way, including head nods

Hmm, I am not so convinced about that, because it will be obvious that you are not interested and that you don’t want to be part of that conversation - and if you want to be obvious then it is much better to be direct than indirect!!

I prefer to just say that I have to go do whatever I have to go do next. But at my work I always have a lot to do, so maybe I have it easy in that regard.

Of 7 nonwhite countries who voted against, basically all are western puppets or colonies (except Mali? idk)

Good catch!

Mali voted in favor. The representative accidentally pressed the wrong button 😅 She corrected the record immediately after: https://media.un.org/en/asset/k1j/k1jb1nxz0o?kalturaStartTime=6641

From reading the articles I would conclude the following:

  • RFA, a US-funded asian ‘news broadcaster’, very likely has created this piece of propaganda as an attempt to use the popularity of the Squid Games to disseminate mis-information about North Korea

and

  • North Korea did pass a law that specifies death as a possible penalty for distributing South Korean content

So… everyone sucks.

That NKnews site is also American. I thought that something like this would be easy to verify, so I have tried to find a bit more information, and according to this site:

https://www.38north.org/2021/11/north-korea-intensifies-war-against-foreign-influence/

While the text of the law was not made public outside of the North, anecdotal reports since indicate that this has prompted a widespread crackdown on foreign content and influence in the country.

So, perhaps it is not as simple.

Sleeping literally changes our very physiology. Our core body temperature drops which allows certain proteins to work differently than they do during our “waking temp,” as a broad example. It’s not something we’d want easy control over.

Most importantly the process of getting sleepy is highly regulated by not only our Circadian rhythm but also by other hormone systems.

We need to burn energy to feel fatigued (when we use ATP and make Adenosine as a byproduct, which signals fatigue in humans).

We need a lack of blue-wavelength light to initiate the process of releasing melatonin at night, which makes us sleepy and helps initiate the sleeping-end of our Circadian processes.

We don’t have voluntary control over sleep because it’s chemically regulated. Adenosine, melatonin, hypercretin (Orexin), etc…

It’s not something we can flex like a muscle. It’s essentially hormonal in nature and therefore requires us to use drugs (meaning ligands that bind to targets in our body) to control it.

Most hand sanitizers use alcohol, which kills indiscriminately. It would kill us if we didn’t have livers to filter it, and in high enough doses will kill anyway. Some germs survive due to randomly being out of contact, in nooks and crannies and such, not due to any mechanism that might be selected for.
