Ok, I’ll take a look at the timings. Someone mentioned Crucial CT16G4SFD8266 16GB, which I might take a look at.

This is the truth, when I heard they were trying to kick out the mods who were pushing the blackout, I knew that whoever is left after all of this is not going to be worth reading. Reddit massively underestimates the value the power users and mods give to the site for everyone else to use. Without them, the site is just a bunch of software trying to push ads on whoever stumbles on it.

This is true with all forms of social media. I remember when Twitter was starting out, and one of the main complaints was “Everyone was sharing pictures of what they ate for lunch”, and my thought was “Don’t follow those people”. Reddit has a lot of crappy areas that won’t be missed. There are a lot of dumb admins that only use the site to have a power trip. But beyond that, there was a lot of GOOD admins, and GOOD subreddits that were filled with interesting discussions and nice cultures.

This is why I am excited about the Fediverse. There will be servers run by meglomaniacs and trolls. There will be servers and communities filled with racist, misogynistic assholes. But you don’t have to go to those. They can be blocked at the community and server levels.

I don’t think it will be a problem as we get more and more people here. Having a bigger user base will allow for a better experience for everyone in that more exposure will make it easier for more tools to be developed. More people means more communities, and finding ones that cover more niche topics, which will make the platform more useful.

Isn’t ublock origin getting blocked on chromium soon? I switched back to Firefox a few months back to avoid that.

I also switched from saving passwords in the browser to Bitwarden so that I wouldn’t be tied to any single browser (or OS) and that has been great.

That’s good to know. It seems like almost all browsers are chromium based right now so having an option of real ad blocking is great.

I am amazed that anyone can browse the web or watch YouTube without ad blocking.

I absolutely love the commentary. If you have the Simpsons DVDs, those are worth watching as well. Although I can’t really vouch for much past season 12.

One thing to note with Docker on Windows is that it will be running the Linux subsystem on top of the Windows stuff when you run Docker, so there will be a performance hit to do that.

It will work, but not necessarily as well as you would like.

I haven’t cared enough to delete it. Before I would always have a tab open for Reddit and would check it from my phone (on Apollo) throughout the day. Now I only browse Lemmy/Mastrodon/RSS, but if I google something and it comes up with a Reddit link, I have no qualms clicking it to see if it has the information I need.

I don’t intend to ever comment or post on Reddit again, and my page views have gone from many per day to once or twice a week.
