I’m looking forward to it.

On the technical side, they are using pure Rust to build the DE, and the Rust GUI ecosystem has been greatly improved by their hard work. If their product turns out to be successful, Iced may eventually become “the Qt of Rust”.

As a user I like their design shown in current demos, and a Wayland-first DE with first class nvidia support is really needed.

According to my experience a bunch of Rust programs should not be too hard to run on other distros. At least NixOS will have the option very quick after it’s release, I believe.

“Opinions that are unacceptable to you” still count as opinions, by definition.

Also nobody is forcing their opinions on you or the whole community, they even sticked a post on top that says “it’s full here, don’t join”.

I don’t believe it will happen when the devs themselves mention this in the docs and are clearly opposing it.
It’s reasonable to have the same sub on alternative instances just in case, but I don’t think defederation is appropriate when there isn’t many users in total since that would kill the community before it forms.

It’s possible but would be awkward without making significant changes to default key mapping. ", , and ( are all motions by default, using them with a selection means “move one end of the selection to there”.
Even “selection-first” editors like kakoune and helix binds the surround command with a prefix (select → surround operator → symbol). It just works better that way.

By default you can always roll back to the last working version from boot menu.

When Windows decided to auto update in the middle of an important meeting without any prompt;
when I download files overnight and the fan takes off at midnight by its telemetry process;
when it gives me a full screen ad trying to change my system settings and stops me from entering the system on time;
when the system starts to integrate with ads from the browser to the taskbar.
It’s not because how good Linux is, it’s because how bad Windows has become.

So I left after my little checklist of must-to-haves is fulfilled. With no regrets.

KDE Plasma 6 for the resolution of so many issues; COSMIC DE as a brand new choice in the future; Guix System to have KDE and more packages shipped because it’s literally the best designed distro as of now.

Yes, except that in Windows 11 they messed it up completely by making it laggy and adding the functionality to randomly crash itself.
