I just finished up listening to Blood of Elves, from The Witcher series. I started with the third game when it came out, but I really love the world and the characters, so the books thus far have been very entertaining. I’m not sure I’d really care for them if I wasn’t already immersed because of the game though.
My sister also just loaned me Tender is the Flesh by Agustina Bazterrica. It takes place in a world where people cannot eat the meat of other animals anymore, so they have legalized cannibalism. I’m only a few chapters in so far, but it’s pretty unnerving. I’m honestly not sure if I’ll be able to read it all the way through.
I always appreciate when the game allows you to choose how far the camera is from your character, and when they let you pick if you want to play first of third person.
I live near a restaurant that has a sign on the side of the building that shows a zoomed in pair of eyes. Below the eyes it says “Fine, dine here!” as if the sign is just being passive aggressive and your patronage to the restaurant is really a nuisance. It’s so dumb, but every time I see it I can’t help but giggle!
I used to use a website called Lang-8. It’s not really for direct chats, but you write an entry and then natives can come and correct it for grammar and/or natural feel. I was never brave enough to do full on chats with natives, so that’s the best I have ^^;
The sub I miss the most is definitely GuysBeingDudes. It was just my type of humor and always gave me a good chuckle.
I am glad that there is a somewhat active community for uplifting news here though.
Wow! Thank you so much for the tips and book suggestion! I was just reading earlier about trying the idea to keep it in a spot with fluctuating temperatures, but I’m embarrassed to say that judging by what you said, I’m likely drowning the poor thing! I think mine needs new soil, so I’ll do that soon and check for root rot while I’m at it, then try better to let the soil dry between waterings. I’ll take a look at the book you suggested too. I got this orchid because the person who had it before passed away, so I want to do my best to keep it healthy!
I’d love to see you update this as you go. I inherited an orchid at work and I’m struggling with helping it bloom. I’d love to see what works for you :)
I just came across “palimpsest” for the first time recently too! It was while reading The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue, by VE Schwab. It’s been a while since I had to look a word up, so it stuck in my mind, lol.
