I’d say it’s all up to whether your desire to distance yourself from Red Hat and it’s distros is great enough to be worth the effort of backing things up and re-installing everything. If you feel better using something that isn’t made by Red Hat after what’s been happening, then switch. If you feel like the effort to switch from something you are already deep into using isn’t quite worth it, then there’s no issue in sticking with it.

I feel this with anything but any personal projects, and I think that’s more because those are just for fun. But when finishing IT stuff and projects for classes I definitely just feel glad that it’s done and over with.

I’d say the top ones I’d recommend are Linux Mint, Zorin OS and Kubuntu. All three work a lot like Windows.

The ones I like to use are Feeder for Android, Gnome Feed Reader for Linux and FluentReader on Windows. Honorable mention to vore.website for a super minimal web-based RSS reader.

Debian

-Simple distro free of too much bloat without being too bare-bones

-Stable, but can also be changed to be a bit more updated if you want that instead-

As much as I hate Meta, I don’t think it makes sense to defederate preemptively. I personally feel like doing that would be telling Threads users “if you choose to use Threads, you aren’t allowed to be a part of the Fediverse” which I think basically defeats the point of federation.

I also think Threads is a good entry point for a lot of people to experience the Fediverse and move to other platforms such as Lemmy or Mastodon.

That being said, if Threads proves to be a huge problem down the road, beyond it just being Meta-owned, then we can defederate. Otherwise, we should wait and see. I think the Fediverse is big and strong enough that waiting to see won’t hurt us.

I think a house isn’t the best comparison here, as a house isn’t a public space, whereas the Fediverse is. A better comparison might be a town square or a park. Anyone is welcome to be there, but if they do something bad, or it becomes obvious that they are going to do something bad, then they can be removed from that space. Otherwise they should be allowed to exist in that space.

Haha fair, I guess that is a pretty objective statement. In my opinion, compared to some other distros and operating systems, it’s pretty bloat free, but I guess if you’re used to something else that is even more bloat free that you would probably disagree.
