Yeah especially considering how easy it is to disable NSFW content on an account level.

Sign me up for the class action. I was thinking of just spinning up a selenium script because I’ve tried using one of the bots to delete post history before, and it didn’t work, so I was assuming the API was resisting. Disappointing to see that even clicking through everything doesn’t work reliably.

It’s my understanding that this post is in reference to a violation of the CCPA, which is a privacy law in California.

I know this isn’t technically the same thing, but we feed.app is pretty nice.

I don’t think the average baby boomer knows how to download an mp3 or play it on a smartphone.

Yeah, (wild estimation) 0.5% of boomers worked in various fields of computer science and were absolutely brilliant with what they accomplished. They built the foundations of everything that we used today, and enabled us to work at levels of abstraction that make our lives way easier.

But still, the average boomer needs to call their grandkids over to switch their TV from HDMI 1 to HDMI 2. I’m being a little bit hyperbolic, but the boomers who didn’t work in tech spent most of their adult lives with virtually no exposure to the computing metaphors that younger generations understand implicitly.

The difference between them and younger generations is that the average millennial grew up using computers, and so the average millennial had vastly better computer literacy.

This is so true. Might catch heat for this, but I actually like TikTok and use the app most days. The last thing I want from a content aggregator is a reposting of the same things that are popular on another app. If I want to watch TikTok videos, I’ll open TikTok.

The irony of the situation is that it’s very popular on Reddit to hate TikTok, and yet TikTok videos are constantly getting upvoted to the front page. It’s almost as if most redditors actually do like TikTok videos, but they also like to constantly demonstrate how unique they are by making sure everyone knows how much they hate popular thing.

Sort of related, but this reminds me of a really annoying thing that’s been happening on my work windows 11 machine.

Any time I launch chrome from VSCode to attach a debugger, edge launches along with it, and directs me to a page that says “try the new bing.”

Absolutely infuriating, makes me want to uninstall edge.

I love that you talked about regretting it. Using one of the arch-based diaries that obfuscates the installation process honestly destroys a lot of the benefit of using arch. Having to vaguely understand how the system fits together makes fixing issues a million times easier.
