You can hide the button, but my favourite way to upvote comments/posts is by swiping a bit to the right!
And if you deep-swipe to the right it will downvote.

In Settings -> Content -> Hide Read Posts .
edit: to clarify, i have the 0.5 version. i’ll update to 0.5.1 now.
