And yep, I write down notes on every cook I can remember to do it for, and my Inkbird App/thermometer does a lot of that for me now. Thing is a godsend.

I’ve wrapped before, using the “Texas Crutch” at the ~165° stall, but no wrap this time, I just spritzed with apple cider vinegar every 30mins after the bark formed well enough, and waited her out ‘naked’ until 2am haha.

This comment is my first contribution to the platform. I have absolutely no idea what I’m doing yet, but I’ll figure it out.

My worry is that I only started a year or so ago on that other platform, and most of my contributions are comments and some photos when I can get my garbage podunk internet to let me upload the latest smoked meat or garden haul. I don’t think I’m a “laying the groundwork” type of user, honestly. If there are any guides or walkthrough on navigating instances and whatnot, I’m all eyes.

I already reeeeeally miss a couple wonderful communities. But I want the best versions of them here, if at all. I’d love to help expand this place.

If I may add, politely, that you should be careful not to lean too heavily on the sound ID of merlin for accuracy. It’s good, but not great by any means.

So, I’m still seeing a ‘pending’ status for mine. I signed up on both beehaw and lemmy.world, and I was really hoping to be able to help grow both, but I can’t create a community on beehaw, so I’m just sitting here waiting to be approved(?) on lemmy.world to be able to do that. I think. I’m not sure I’ve got much of this as figured out as everyone else.

I would kill to just have some help/pointers figuring out how to navigate this… Fediverse?
