Your original claim that “Freedom of speech is by definition freedom from consequence for speech” is simply impossible to implement without limiting someone else’s freedom of speech, as well as their right to ownership over private property.

There’s no such thing as “freedom from consequences” for anything you do, including speech.

It’s adequate the way it is now. They should hold off on any major upgrades until after the next batch of new users come in. Lemmy breaking during that period would be far worse then missing some updates and new features.

history | grep <search term>

Does the job well if the key combo doesn’t work.

I’m using Liftoff which is the best one I’ve found so far, but I can’t figure out how to look up communities which is actually a huge UX issue. Also I have a hard time separating posts on the front page, the cards need a visible border or something.

I’m looking forward to boost. Already in queue to install once it comes out.

The main reason sites have upvote/downvote features is to create confrontation and conflict. They want us yelling at each other and insulting each other because that engages more people and makes them more money.

Social media companies are the scum of the fucking earth. Tech needs to be much more heavily regulated than it is. It’s long past time to put these intentionally destructive fatcat sociopaths in their place.

Nah, most open source UIs are really pretty bad. Most devs are horrendous designers.

Your comment about profitability is true when it comes to social media companies specifically but definitely not true for the industry as a whole. UX is a huge selling point for enterprise software and the goal there isn’t to drive clicks or views, because that’s not how those companies make money.

UX won’t be a problem as long as the maintainers are open to feedback and not stubborn about their current approach. And even if they are, an alternate front end could be introduced separate from the default one.
