I just recently saw a couple of posts on reddit that blew my mind with how condescending and downright hostile some folks were to someone asking an honest question on the fucking communism101 sub. Basically the person asking a question about if being a lawyer would be a good profession to get into to assist people and they were basically told that they just wanted to live a cushy life and were self serving, unethical, and basically gave the impression that whatever good they wanted to do was just liberal fantasy. I felt so bad for OP especially since it was a communism for beginners sub. There was a similar post on the regular r/communism where OP got their ass chewed out too. I can see getting annoyed with those types of questions but good lord did they leave a bad taste in my mouth.

One person did post a pretty interesting article that has made me shift my perspective a bit but even in that they called social workers pathetic and like, how is that constructive at all?

I hate the framing of Hamas as terrorists, if they are considered terrorists, The IOF should be too.

I was reading the 1988 charter and there are parts of it that are sketchy and contain anti semitic stuff, like saying that Jews control the world and media and that they use groups like the Freemasons to push the Zionist agenda. I think there is one quote about killing jews. But in the same charter they talk about aoming for Muslims, Christians and Jews to live peacefully together as they had after the Islamic conquest in the 7th century. And I recognize that the formation of Hamas is a reaction to colonization, displacement, murder and torture. Also I know they did re-write the charter in 2017 to explicitly state that they are militantly against the Zionist occupation and not Jews. It’s interesting and evokes a lot of different conflicting feelings for me, I just would be super curious to see an interview with someone who has been part of Hamas for decades speak on this

Edit: I’m working on a very brief history of Palestine and I’m finally working on 1988-1995 so there is probably a lot of context I’m missing at this point in the history too and am really curious to keep moving forward and learn about it.

Hope I don’t get banned for this, but like can someone explain to me exactly why this shit is funny and there’s no nuance around it? Like, you can mourn the Muslim lives lost due to American Imperialism AND mourn the lives of the people who had fuck all to do with any of that? Like the janitors in the building for example? Like I get it fuck the state but for it to be something people post about and laugh at all day long is hard for me to grock. What if it was your family that died?

I’m not trying to argue anything or get in a struggle session around it but like, I’m just surprised that I haven’t really seen any kind of pushback or critique around making that big of a joke of this.

Yep, officer Davis was my SRO back in the early 2000’s. He was known for harassing kids at school AND purposefully being the cop to bust kids after hours for smoking weed and such. He fucking hated teenagers

Nimby’s will complain about needles and feces on sidewalks, but when you suggest giving someone a studio where they could use drugs and shit outside of the public eye. They say “Not on my dime!”

My brother in Christ, your dime is paying to move what you are complaining about to the other side of the block!! Nothing is going away, nothing is getting solved! It makes me want to pull my hair out so much.

Obviously homelessness is much more complex than how I described it above but sometimes I try to think of ways to explain shit that will appeal to libs/assholes (as I did above) but even then they just…don’t care.

Recently, a houseless woman’s belongings were trashed during sweeps. With them were her daughters’ ashes.

cw stats on abuse

I saw someone on reddit say about homeless people without social supports: “if you have absolutely no friends or family that’s a YOU problem”. How can. People be so fucking dense?

50+ percent of homeless people have been part of the foster care system

20 percent of foster youth who age out transition directly to homelessness

38 percent of homeless youth under the age of 18 experienced sexual abuse that contributed to their homelessness

90+ percent of homeless women have been sexually abused in their lifetimes

It’s been proven that early childhood trauma impacts the likelihood of schizophrenia in adults

Yet when you shove all of the facts in their face, it’s just another goalpost to move. Ugh

Started researching origins of Israel/Palestine beginning in the Bronze Ages til present to dunk on everyone with their shitty takes. I am and never have been a big history person, but I’ve more or less gone through the Bronze Ages - 1940’s and figured out surrounding context for myself, just need to flesh out my notes. I’d love suggestions on what to study that could be important to getting an advanced grasp on the relations over the years, from any time period. Plsthx

One snippet of my radicalization came from a partner of mine who worked at Peet’s Coffee years ago. He told me that every night when the pastries were thrown away, the manager instructed the workers to pour bleach all over them so houseless folks couldn’t eat them. At the time I couldn’t believe it

I found this article about Milei yesterday to learn a bit about him and it’s absolute unhinged. I read this part and I lost my shit, cackling at work:

But he quit football at 18 to study economics, going on to lecture at university, then working as an economist at various financial institutions.

In his free time he sang in a band, Everest, which played Rolling Stones songs — and he looked the part. Advertisement

Milei claims he hasn’t combed his hair since he was 13, adding: "From that moment on, the invisible hand combs my hair.”
