I would never upgrade without doing a backup of my system so I could revert back. I assume you did not do this?

Under Arch it hasn’t dropped to Stable yet, so unless you are running the testing branch, you won’t have to worry. I think it took 5.27 two weeks or so to get to the stable branch after its “release,” so you are probably looking at early to mid March. By then, we should also have Plasma 6.1 drop, ie, updates.

Just an update on this, Patch 5 was released and it was a huge update. Once again, even the developers recommend downloading the whole game again with Patch 5 included. To my knowledge, both Fitgirl/DODI are still offering outdated versions. You can get the latest game + Patch5 on 1337z by IGGGAMESCOM, works well for me.

Reddit 2.0…already migrating off this censorship.

You can use LASIM app (Windows/Mac/Linux) to migrate your profile and settings to another instance. Highly recommend.

There is no linux version. Steam/Valve has been updating their proton versions to work with BG3. I would recommend using their ‘proton experimental.’ If you buy from GOG, you can use Lutris, they have a runner that should install everything needed to run BG3, and it also lists some tweaks to make.

You could go with System76, I think they have a high-end “graphics” laptop, which would be suitable for gaming. Open source company so you are guaranteed everything is compatible with Linux.

However, if money is an issue or you find something else you like, for example the Dell XPS laptops ( in the past have been very compatible with linux,) here is a tool to check the model and/or the parts (important) such as wifi, etc., to see if they are compatible for a lot of laptops.

With the gaming industries increasing prices, piracy is the best way to sample a game, much like the old music stores would allow you to listen to tracks in store before purchasing. No one wants to plop down $70 and get a turd.

Also, we pirates are saving older games the gaming industry no longer want to support or offer. ARRRRRRHH!!!

I get the open source support part of your comment, but you are taking out the fact Steam/Valve has done a lot …A LOT…to get games working on Steam. Additionally, for the first time every they have driving Linux marketshare higher than MacOS as a result. So, to dismiss them completely is wrong. They have done a lot for linux…and linux gaming.
