I think the main thing to understand is that these have been the actions of the Russian government, not necessarily individual Russian citizens. This seems like overkill to me.
To be clear, in no way am I giving Russia a free pass, obviously what they’ve done is reprehensible; I just know that there are a lot of Russian citizens who would also agree with that statement.
There’s a lot of value in using an IDE, from just general formatting stuff to being able to tell what class functions do without having to dig into the class itself. Not to mention autocomplete.
There’s lots of free solutions out there now, so if you’re curious I’d give it a shot. I think you’ll find once you start using one it’ll be hard to go back to just a plain text editor.
I like vs code a lot, if you’re looking for specific recommendations. It’s lightweight and can be upgraded to do pretty much anything via extensions.
I mentioned this in another post, but tmux is awesome
Kinda hard not to be when most people never expect anything good to ever happen again.
Kinda new to the whole sysadmin thing, but tmux has been an absolute game changer for me. No more remote desktop for long running processes, I can just do everything from ssh.

The main thing about them is that the rule of those communities is that you must post something before you leave, could be anything which is why it seems so random.
