BSD.cafe “Barista”, Founder and System Administrator, Unix enthusiast ( #FreeBSD, #OpenBSD, #NetBSD, #DragonflyBSD, and #Linux ), with a keen eye for everything happening in this world and the fascinating beings that populate it. I enjoy #music, #photography, and, of course, #technology.
I’ll be sharing posts about my interests. I’ll also boost the posts from @announcements.

Boosts are not endorsements.

@ininewcrow@lemmy.ca true. The smartphone hasn’t done a great job here.
Still, I like to think that the lights are “noisy” while the darkness makes the sea “silent”. That’s why I was concentrating on this message.

@soaproot@sfba.social it’s happened a couple of times, in the last days. My boosts mean “hey, look here” but people, sometimes, think they’re some sorts of endorsements.
So I preferred to point it out - just to be sure of not being misunderstood 🙂

@zirias@snac.bsd.cafe @modev@snac.bsd.cafe Entire instances can be blocked using the command line, but they’re using many (abandoned? loosely moderated?) instances.
We can also set the “drop posts from accounts created less than X seconds ago”. We could set a 86400 seconds - but we could lose new users, posting their introductions.

For now, I’ve blocked those instances you pointed out

@EnigmaRotor@bsd.cafe Quoted boosts are coming on Mastodon, too: https://blog.joinmastodon.org/2024/10/trunk-tidbits-september-2024/

Still, I don’t know how they’ll be considered by many as many Twitter users did a lot of mess with them, using them to harass people.

I totally agree with your point of view: I don’t want to judge people by a post/boost. Still, I understand why people are so “on guard” as the Fediverse is full of bad people/trolls, too.

Luckily, the world is full of good people. But, sometimes, it’s quite difficult to find them as they’re much, much more silent than the bad ones.

@winterschon@bsd.cafe I decided to point it out on my profile, just to avoid problems/misunderstandings.

@kasperd Quote posts are coming to Mastodon (https://blog.joinmastodon.org/2024/10/trunk-tidbits-september-2024/). Let’s see if people will accept it. For now, many are against them as on Twitter they’ve (also) been used in a very bad way.

@Linkshaender@bildung.social I agree. It’s one of my favourite places of the world.

@admin@hear-me.social I’m glad to know it’ll be useful. I’ve performed some tests on my test instance - I’ll be upgrading the BSD Cafe in the coming weeks.
