At the company I work at (in software R&D, about 40% of the workforce), I’m a strong advocate for remote-first policies. My immediate boss understands a lot of my concerns, but seems to deeply want to return. When asked why, they come up with these vague ideas of connectedness and poetic visions of sparks flying in the creative process afforded by a meeting room.
Yet only it’s only them and the sales department in the office day-to-day. I think they just want some company but don’t want to outright say that.
Had a baby this year and I have a twofer:
- I got a used prefold + covers lot for $100. Cloth diapers seem more comfortable for the baby and they are way easier on the wallet.
- Woven wraps can be found used for $20-$80. A woven wrap is a baby wrap you can use from birth till they stop wanting to be held (35+ lbs). They are cheaper and more versatile than many structured carriers.
Cheap Amazon bidet. $40 and it revolutionized my #2 experience.
I’m a programmer. Just wanted to pop in and say that we shifted last year to a 32-hour 4-day workweek after we were bleeding good staff.
It’s life-changing. My work-life balance got an instant upgrade. What used to be a hard week is now so much more bearable. I can look forward to my weekend and actually take a full day to relax without worrying about losing half my weekend.

Excellent. A solid foods tracker is the one feature that is missing and would let me switch from Huckleberry!
