Right. I saw some content I wanted to post but the magazines didn’t exist here yet, so I created them. I copied the existing rules and put a comment that any existing mods were welcome to take over. My motivation was that I wanted new people to find their familiar subs when they come here, but I have no aspirations of actually modding it myself if the original mods come along.
E: I do kinda think it wasn’t the right move now and that while we are small we should consolidate into less niche magazines, but what’s done is done, however it’s not a power play with everyone anyway.
If nothing else, this should count as a wakeup call to the exploding-heads admins, that if these are just outlier users they should probably be reigned in. If there is pressure to defed now, it will only increase if nothing changes. If the instance won’t manage its users, that’s precisely why they will get defederated.
Oh. Hey, thanks for the reminder. I’d forgotten to place a review for this product, but I feel it’s the responsible thing to do.
Yes, it’s inevitable but stretching out the pain to draw more people to the fediverse is useful. The more news it makes, the more people will want to check it out, and a wee bit of viral, newsworthy drama could make a significant impact on the adoption trajectory. Plus, for petty people like me, it’s a great source of entertainment.
I believe there is a whitelist mode, that isn’t currently enabled but in that mode new instances are defederated by default. That would be a pain to administer for all the small instances joining, so they may set some size or reputation rules to apply for federation (??). I imagine this is inevitable if automated instance spamming becomes a problem, unless some type of RBL comes in vogue for managing federation first. It may become impossible to manage manually.
E: oh the whitelist thing may only be relevant to kbin federation, as that was the topic I saw it in. Sometimes I forget where I am :-/
It feels like a lot of people new to the fediverse think it revolves around lemmy. It always feels a bit divisive to come across posts like this that single out lemmy. It would be nice if people asked about the fediverse or threadiverse or something. Don’t forget that us kbin users (among others) are browsing the same threads and partaking in the same discussions.
