Love how they casually throw China in there.
Kebab case hands down, it’s as readable as snake case, but easier to type. Unfortunately, it’s rarely seen outside Lisps.
Another big problem with Signal is the fact that it’s centralized with the server being located in US. Even if the protocol itself is secure with the server not having access user data, this presents a huge risk since US government can simply force Signal to shut down the service at any time. The server can also potentially collect metadata about the users providing US security agencies with user connection graphs.
I think that Matrix approach is much more sound, and would always recommend it over Signal.
I think Linux phones have huge potential going forward. Personally, I’ve noticed that my usage patterns haven’t really changed in at least a decade. I use a fairly small number of apps like calendar, email, chat, media player, etc. The way these apps work hasn’t really changed, and if I could get those working well on a Linux phone then I really wouldn’t miss Android one bit.
As a side note, it’s really depressing to see how hardware keeps getting faster, but software bloat negates all the gains. If we could have an ecosystem of open source apps that are optimized for performance, then we could have phones that last for many years without having to keep replacing them. Imagine if with every update your software kept getting faster instead of slower.
I love how every single thing capitalists told people would happen under communism has actually come true under capitalism.
what could possibly go wrong
Yeah, I don’t think this will affect AOSP, but I do imagine that Google will encourage use of AAB going forward and that means less apps might end up getting packaged using APK leading to a more closed ecosystem. Unfortunately, some of the popular communication apps like Slack, Discord, or Signal are only available from vendors and if you rely on these apps you’ll be stuck using Play store.
Even US state department denies the Uyghur genocide. Give it a rest already.
